So you've seen our fabulous line up of homemade songs and wanted to do one of your own, have
you? Or perhaps you heard some custom made Super Famicom/SNES tunes from Youtube or elsewhere and endeavored to learn how to do it yourself? Or perhaps you're lost and came here looking for sprite pictures of boobs or something.
Either way, this page will serve your needs promptly. There are several different ways to create reasonably-authentic sounding SNES music these days. If you have a digital audio workstation like Fl Studio by Image-Line or something capable using sf2 files, then there are many soundfonts currently available. Soundfonts are the lowest quality usually, but they're
also the easiest to work with in my opinion and with some elbow grease they can get the job done. For those who prefer the VST route, you only need one - the mighty C700 VST - which lets you load SFC samples from the SPC files themselves! I personally find C700 more difficult to use then it's worth, but a lot of chiptune artists swear by it, so give it a shot!
Other options? Well, these are higher in quality but a bit harder to get into. If you own a full version of Kontakt by Native Instruments, then there are a few sample sets of SFC/SNES instruments made from popular games in there. This is what I personally compose with and find the best to use, but if you don't have a full version of Kontakt, the $400 price tag will not make this route worth your while. If you're really hardcore, you can try the tracker route. FastTracker, Impulse Tracker, Milky Tracker, Modplug Tracker, Schism Tracker I believe will take in SFC instruments. Trackers are THE way composers used to make this kind of music but, as you can imagine, it ain't for the faint of heart. :P
Apparently you can also write music using the SNES console itself, but while I know people who can do it, to date I haven't found much info on how to do it yourself. Just bein' honest. :D
So here's where we'll list for you the instruments. As of now, we're just linking to other sites that have the files like Woolyss, Williamkage.com and so on. In the future, we may be able to host versions of the files ourselves provided we get permission to do so, but this should satisfy already.
