The Super Everdrive

/ /
While SFCaliber is not about promoting piracy, it's tough to argue in favor of collecting cart after cart to play the SFC and SNES libraries from a practical perspective. These things are over 20-25 years old, are hoarded by bearded bottomfeeders locked in perpetual adolescence and are therefore artificially inflated in prices. Is it worth $500 to own a game just to play it?

No.

It is, however, worth $100 or so to be able to play backups and translations of your favorites straight from the machine itself with new mileage. Enter the Super Everdrive - a flashcart from Krikzz that plays Super Famicom/SNES ROMS from an SD card. You've probably heard of these flashcarts and some versions of them have existed for years, but Krikzz's Everdrive series is THE gold standard of the mechanism. The Everdrive is fairly well known these days but still technically under the radar - which is why I'm reporting it here.

Short of pirating, the Everdrive is an excellent for gamers whose SFC/SNES libraries experienced the following:

* Failing cart health of rare titles.
* SFC/SNES libraries that are shared across families not living in the same home.
* Particular favorites that were lost, borrowed or stolen.
* That dang ol' language barrier.

See more on the Super Everdrive at Krikzz's website.
